# Exclusions

> See who won't get your texts, and add your own do-not-contact list.

Exclusions are the people Avoca won't contact. Customers who reply STOP are added automatically, and you can upload your own list too.

Find it at **Products → Outbound → Exclusions**.

## See who's excluded

The list shows one row per customer.

* Use **All**, **SMS**, **Calls** or **Emails** to look at one kind of contact.
* Use the **All**, **Transactional** and **Promotional** tabs to narrow it further. Promotional means marketing texts. Transactional means service updates, like appointment messages.
* Search by name, phone or email.
* The **Opt-out Request** column shows how each person ended up here, like **SMS reply** or **Uploaded list**.
* Select **Download CSV** to save the list you're looking at.

## Add a do-not-contact list

**1. Open the upload**

Select **Upload exclusion list**.

**2. Name your list**

Enter a **List name**, like "Do Not Call List".

**3. Upload your file**

Choose a CSV, XLSX or XLS file with phone numbers. Each number needs an area code. Use a column with a heading like "phone", "mobile" or "cell", or a single column of numbers with no heading. Select **Download template** if you want a starting point.

Rows without a valid phone number are skipped.

**4. Choose what to exclude them from**

Under **Exclude from**, tick **SMS · Transactional**, **SMS · Promotional**, **Call · Transactional** and **Call · Promotional**, as needed. You have to pick at least one. **Select all** ticks everything.

**5. Upload**

Select **Upload list**. A message tells you how many phone numbers were added.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Lists can only hold phone numbers. You can't upload emails.

To see the lists you've uploaded, select **Uploaded lists**, then **View details** on a list. To remove a list, contact Avoca Support.

## Opt someone back in

Only do this when a customer asks to get texts again. Select the **Opt back in to texts** icon on their row, then confirm. Customers can also opt back in by texting START.

This works for texts only. It isn't available for people who are excluded because of an uploaded list.

## How exclusions work in a campaign

* **Remove Excluded Audience** is on by default when you create a campaign. It leaves out the numbers on your uploaded lists.
* The **Exclusions** setting on the Schedule step is separate. It skips customers you contacted recently.

See [Create a campaign](https://help.avoca.ai/outbound/campaigns.md) for both.
